Evaluation
How does your media product: use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? Represent particular social groups?
With our product ‘Where’s my Mr.Right?’ we wanted to create a feel good film which has most of the conventions of a romantic comedy such as the characters, we based our main character on ‘Bridget Jones’ because she is seen to be looking for love but quite depressing and we wanted to have our second character to be quite outgoing but brings the personality out on both of the characters, showing a strong friendship between the two girls. We thought we used a typical sterotype in our characters which are usually seen in romantic comedies. We used a catchy song for our opening because it matches our genre, we picked the song ‘Two Birds’ by Regina Spektor as we thought it was a nice upbeat song which matches the opening, the lyrics of the song match the story of the film as the ‘two birds’ could be the our main character and her ‘Mr.Right’. We found a quite girly text which we liked the look of and would again match our genre, we used the colour white because it stood out on the film but we wanted the title to be brighter than the rest of the text throughout the film. We used the colour pink because it connotes love, we put the text over the images at the end to give the audience and idea of what the film is going to be revolved around and maybe who her ‘Mr.Right’ is.
What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
We decided to used Paramount for our institution as when we researched romantic comedies Paramount was the most popular institution that distributed the highest grossing films. We wanted to use a big institution for our film because it has distributed big successful romantic comedies they all have a big fan base and using a big institution will make our film more popular with the success of paramount and its Romantic comedies.
Who would your audience be for your media product?
Our primary audience for our film was between 15-25 aimed at women because this is the popular audience for romantic comedies and a popular age to go to the cinema. We aimed our film more for women because the film is based on two women and realtionships which a lot of women like to go and watch and enjoy going to the cinema to see these kind of films and women can relate to the story line and the characters which are shown in the film. The female audience can experience the characters situations as they might of experience it themselves as realtionships are an everyday occurance. Our film could also appeal to men which would be our secondary audience. The ending of the opening could appeal to men because of the different pictures which are shown and showing that men are just as important in our film as much as women are and the men play a huge part in the film as its all about realtionships. The male audience can also relate to the storyline with the different situations the film will show throughout just like the film appeals to the female audience.
How did you attract/address your audience?
We used different conventions in our opening scene to attract our audience to our romantic comedy. The song 'Two Birds' is very upbeat and quite girly but also contrasts between the opening scene of our main character acting quite depressed which would make the audience interested in what the film is about. The name of the song 'Two Birds' links to our storyline of the looking for love as 'Two Birds' represents two people in a realtionship and the lyrics also link to our opening of two people looking for love. But also the title of the song could also link to the two characters 'Zoey' and 'Donna' showing the friendship between them both throughout the film. We wanted to create something different at the end of our opening so the audience would know when the rest of the film is about to start, we created the collage look with different pictures of 'Zoey's' past realtionships which we thought would keep the audience thinking throughout the film of who they think she will end up with at the end of the film. The pictures show a different side to our main character as she is shown to be quite depressing and sad at the fact she doesnt think she will find love again whereas the pictures show her happy and enjoying herself, this gives the audience a view of what she might be like in the rest of film if she finds her true love. We used the colour pink for our title 'Where's My Mr Right?' because it stands out on top of the images at the end and the colour pink connotates love giving the effect that her 'Mr.Right' is in the pictures.
What have you learnt about Technologies from the process of conducting this project?
When doing the project i have learnt to use the programme better and learnt different things for this project which we didnt know how to do on the previous tasks we have done. We learnt how to do the slide transitions which we got the idea from the film 'Definatly, Maybe' opening, we liked the idea of the slide transitions showing the different events of our main character in a quicker way. When we first started making the slide transitions we would have some difficulties getting used to it aswell as remembering how to do it every time, but we soon got used to it and we came out with a great result which we were all pleased with. With the slide transitions it helped us when we had a few continuity which we didnt realise when we had re-shot this helped when we put the shot in a slide transitions making it less noticable and made the opening more successful. With the different technology it made filming and editing a lot easier and helped us make a better film than we had on other tasks when we werent used to the programme and the camera's. When learning different things throughout the project we were able to go back and make our opening film more better and proffessional which made it flow more throughout.
Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
I have learnt from the different preliminary tasks that continuity is something we have to always be on the look out for because it makes a big difference to your film if you have continuity errors as it makes it look unproffessional. I have also learnt that you can never have too much footage from filming because it can always come in handy when you are editing and over looking the footage because you dont notice on the day of filming the errors. From previous tasks we learnt that we all have to work together to produce the best possible outcome in our work and we all did something when doing the project when editing and filming and having different ideas when researching for our film which all comes to making the final outcome. We all know from the different tasks we have done that using different camera angles make it more successful and doing lots of different shots makes it successful when editing as they all can fit in and make the film flow.

Ending of our film
These are the images we used at the ending of the film. We used the different images because of the storyline of the main character trying to find her 'Mr.Right' giving the audience the insight of the rest of the story. We created the pictures like a collage beacuse we wanted to create a look that someone is throwing in the photos. The speed of the pictures fit perfectly to the music and they fade out at the right time when the music ends giving it a flow.We wanted to show the text over the top of the pictures because it gives the audience an idea of who her 'Mr.Right' is. The text we used is very girly and matches the rest of the text throughout the opening, we wanted to use a bright colour on the title instead of white which the rest of the texts are. We used pink as it suggests girliness and fun of the characters together but also pink implies the connotations of love showing the theme of our film. We all really like when all the pictures fade out and the title is still left on the screen it stands out on the black background and it shows that it would be going into the next scene and the story is about to continue.

Free lesson 7/3/12
In our free lesson yesterday we sat in a year 11 lesson to finish off the last minute editing before the deadline on Friday, which we will be finished for. We did the finishing of the title making it flow in and out at the right time, we made the pictures fade out to black and we zoomed in the paramount sign at the beginning and also made all of our opening credits use the same effect. In our last lesson on Friday we will just play it through making sure we have completed everything we can and wanted to do for it to be converted into a movie file.
Pictures
At the end of the opening we wanted to finish it with pictures of 'Zoey' ex boyfriends, we got some photos of Catherine with some friends and used them at the end. We wanted it to look like someone was throwing the pictures on. It took us a while to get used to the editing of the pictures but we had to move the scale of the picture then the position to make the picture look like it was moving. We achieved this and we think it looks successful. We also wanted the title 'Where's My Mr Right?' to come onto of all the photos when they are all on the screen. We wanted the text to look like it was being typed on by doing this we had to do each letter indiviudual to make it look like it was typed on we had a few problems with this as some of the letters would come on together instead of individual and we would have to delete it. But we finally got it looking right and we think it looks good on top of the photos at the end of the scene. We changed the text colour to pink using the same girly font we think the colour pink suits it giving the romantic feel to the film.
Logo
With our original logo we have created, we found that we made the logo too small to fit in the screen in the premier as when trying to zoom up into the image it became pixelated and difficult to see making the logo look unprofessional and messy. Therefore we had to redo the logo on Photoshop making the logo bigger for the image to look sharp and professional when put into our opening scene. We still kept the same logo design but simply just made it bigger and changed the position of the writing. We added the effect of the logo spinning into the screen and zooming into the screen to then fade out we also added the effect of the light behind the logo making it look professional. By doing this we wanted to make it look more like a realistic opening scene with the logos.

New script
This is part of the extra conversation between the two characters, we thought this conversation would show the audience an insight of what the film is going to contain, as Zoey says "Why can't I find Mr Right?" and knowing the film is going to be called "Where is Mr Right?" the audience knows this is what the film is going to contain. We added a new script at the end because we wanted to make sure we said the exact same things every time as in previous tasks we haven't gone off a script all the time making the speaking off because of the different shots we wanted to use it helped a lot with having a script which didnt include a lot of lines. We wanted to create different positions from the characters to make it look asif the characters have been speaking for a while to show the friendship between them both, the script helped us because we would have to take different shots in the different positions by repeating the script making sure we got the speech right every time!
Donna: You are so depressing Zoey.
Zoey: Why can't I find my Mr Right?
Donna: Just stop looking and be like me, I'm still having fun in life.
Zoey: But I want to settle down my wild child days are over, and all my relationships have ended in tears. I just want to be happy.

Extra footage
Today in our lesson we finally got our footage onto the computer from our shooting off Saturday. We looked through all of the shots we took and deleted the ones that were no good to us. We are all happy with the way the new clips look and they look much better than the old ones that we had to get rid of. We started to edit a few of the clips adding the clip of Ellie walking out the car and into the house and walking up the stairs. We decided because on one of the clips of Ellie opening and closing the door her hand is on the door but the next clip her hand isn't which is a continuity error, because of this we decided to add some more slide transitions which we think looks really good. We have the slide transitions appear on the screen of Ellie walking in the house and walking up the stairs while we also have the shot of Catherine's reaction shot in a slide transition also on the same slide as Ellie's feet walking up the stairs, giving the idea that Ellie is about to walk into the bedroom. We will add a clip to show what we have added.

Today's lesson
Unfortunatly we didnt have the camera today to put our footage we shot on saturday on the computer as we lent the camera to Kelly and Louise straight after filming on saturday for their shooting and they have forgot to bring it into school today. We will have it tomorrow hopefully and we can get on with editing. Today we will do the opening credits and adding our institution.

Extra Filming 25th Feb
We filmed on Saturday to do the extra shots we needed to do. Before filming we planned out which shots we wanted to do and the script between the two characters so we werent making something up everytime we filmed. We managed to get every shot we wanted and are all happy with the way they looked. We filmed: a reaction shot of 'Zoey' when 'Donna' walks through the door, conversation between the two characters, shooting in different positions and then a re-shoot of 'Donna's' entrance to the house. We remembered the 180 degree rule and made sure the continutity was correct as we didnt want it to look like we had been filming on two seperate days. We didnt have any problems with the camera or actors while filming. In our lesson tomorrow we can final get on with the finally stages of editing!

Text
These are some of the texts we liked as they are both quite girly and match the romantic genre. We want the colour of the text to be quite simple like a light pink colour which conotes love.
The second image is the one we are thinking about using as its quite feminine and young. We think it suits the film and it would look good flowing into the shots. We decided that we will use the colour white throughout the opening untill the final title appears at the end which will be pink because we think this will show the theme of the film and it will lead it on to the next scene.

Extra filming weekend
This saturday we are meeting up to do our extra filming to improve our shots which didnt have very good continutity. We are meeting at around 3 as this is around the time we filmed last time as we will hopefully get the right lighting. We are going to do a establishing shot at the beginning either to show the location it is set or to show Catherine pulling up to the house, we think this will be a better shot than the original shot of Catherine just getting out the car. We need to improve the ending as our shot just jumps to the next one and the continutity isnt very good. Once we have completed our shooting on saturday we can finally get on with finishing for the deadline.
Music email
This is the email from the girl we emailed on youtube who has agreed to let us use her cover of 'Two Birds' as we never got an reply from the Regina Spektor we had to quickly find a good enough cover to use and luckily she let us use her cover which we all really like. We really like this song as it matches our theme of film as its quite upbeat and bring that theme of love at the opening. The song fits well with the two characters as the song is about finding love and that is what our main character 'Zoey' wants and as it the song is quite upbeat it also matches our other character 'Donna' because she has a very lively personality. We have fitted the music onto our editing and it fits quite well as it flows right with the different scenes of our film, which we are all pleased with. The next step to do is to edit the volume of the song when the characters are speaking, we still want the song playing in the background but only quiet we need to make it flow in and out of the volume so it doesn't seem like it is jumping. Tuesday, 21 February 2012
Costumes of characters
These are the costumes our character 'Zoey' and 'Donna' will be wearing in the opening scene. We wanted to create two different looks on them because they both are shown to have two different personalities. We wanted to portray 'Zoey' to be quite sad and to kind of 'Hate her life' so we put her in a big jumper and leggings to show she cant be bothered to look good because she is depressed with her life! Her outfit contrasts with her best friend in the film 'Donna' as she is shown to be loud and out going compared to 'Zoey'. We put her in bright colours and high heels to show she is loves to party and likes to have fun compared to her best friend.
These are pictures of behind the scenes of the day shooting. This is us filming Catherine getting out the car and Ellie in the car doing the speaking.

Extra Filming
We are going to film more pieces for our final piece as a few of our shots could be improved including an establishing shot of either the setting or the car driving in. A shot Ellie leaving the car and showing her walk through the door as we didnt have one beforehand and the shot jumped from ellie outside to her walking up the stairs. A shot of Ellie walking up the stairs as the shot jumps and its a bit off balanced. We also need to do the dialogue again in the bedroom of the two characters as we didnt have the right shot of Ellie walking into the room and the end shot just stops, we need a shot that ends the opening scene.

Rough Cut
http://ellielouisesnowdon.blogspot.co.uk/2012/02/rough-cut.html
Our rough cut can be found on Ellie's blog. At the moment on our rough cut we havent included music or titles and we need to re-shoot our last bit of the opening as their is a few continuity errors and the speaking needs to be completed. We will re-shoot adding extra shots and a better script as all of us aren't happy with it, more shots of ellie turning up to the house will make the opening flow more as now we only see Ellie in the car and then suddenly walking up the stairs. We need to also add our institution and logo at the beginning to make seem more proffessional but they are the last pieces we will be doing as we need to focus on re-shooting, music and titles. Once we have included all of these hopefully it will flow more and we will have a much better outcome.

Logo - Snowdon Studios
This is one of our ideas for our production logo, we have done three design ideas. The other two are on Ellie's computer so we will post them on here soon. We had some different ideas, but the one we are using has a film reel in the background behind our text. We have named it 'Snowdon Studies' as we have used this on all of our other pieces of work and we wanted all of our names on the final piece, as Catherine is the main actor and i was the director. We havent quite decided how we are going to having it coming in at the beginning of the opening, we want it maybe like the parmount or 21st century as we think it looks good.

This is the logo we want to use on our opening of the film, we like this one better than the first design as it has more of a film look to it with the film reel behind the text. We used this text as it simple but stands out behind the background image.

Our slide transitions
From seeing the slide transitions at the beginning of 'Defiantly,Maybe' we wanted to do it at the beginning of our film as we like the effect it gives. We found this quite difficult to do at first as we would forget how to do it once we were shown, but we got the hang of it and we think it works well with our shots we are using. We weren't planning on using the slide transitions twice in the opening but because of a continuity error we didn't realize until editing, the slide transitions helped us make the error less noticeable and it still makes it flow. We like the effect it gives when showing the different events happening in the opening scene such as when 'Zoey' is greeted with 'Donna' the slide transitions help show the audience that 'Donna' has arrived and the reaction shot of her best friend when she does enter her room. Its all effective at the beginning when 'Zoey' returns home and it shows her entering the house and the different stages she does when she returns home such as, take her shoes off, getting changed and entering a new room. We wanted to create this so it flowed in and out but also making the little bits like taking her shoes off and getting changed a quicker process in the opening.

Music
We had some problem with our music as we wanted to use the original song by Regina Spektor 'Two Birds' we emailed her mangement but unfortuantly we never got a reply back from them. We searched YouTube to see if we could find a good cover we could use for our final piece, we emailed a singer on YouTube to see if she wouldn't mind us using her cover of the song, thankfully she said yes!
Here is a video of the singer we have choosen covering Regina Spektors song 'Two Birds' she has a great voice and really fits with the film.

Fridge shots
This is a shot that we did in the fridge, we did several shots of this to try and get it right. This is the best shot we achieved while filming these shots. We put the camera in the fridge because we thought it would be a different angle which would look good and showing the character in a different position. The shot is really effective as it shows what the character is getting out the fridge (comfort food) and it is effective when the door closes on the camera leading it to the next shot of 'Zoey' leaving the kitchen to eat the ice cream. This is one of my favorite shots in the film because its different and we haven't seen this shot in a lot of films so it seems quite original and different. We all pleased with the final outcome of this shot even after taking a lot of them to get the right one.

Review of footage
We finally got to look at our footage on the computer and we looked at every shot we did filming to see which take was the best and which one wasnt so good! We did several shots of 'Zoey' walking from the car to the house to make sure we got it right, the only problem with the shots that were taken outside is the wind but for the first shots outside we are using music over the top. We are very pleased with the shots of 'Zoey' on the bed as we think we will be able to edit this the way we want to making it look as if time is going by quickly. We also did several shots of the camera in the fridge and we are very happy with the final shot, which we will post on our blog soon to show what we wanted to achieve. We are happy with our opening shots of 'Zoey' walking out the car, taking her shoes off and putting her hoodie on as we think these will be good shots for our slide transitions. We have used several camera angles which we wanted to use, my favourite is the shot of 'Zoey' opening the fridge and closing it!

Fliming
We filmed on Saturday all day as we wanted the whole day to make sure we got everything done. We arranged to meet at 11 at our location but one of our actors couldn't make it till a few hours later. While waiting me and Ellie worked out how we were going to shoot in the house and the different shots which would look suitable throughout the scene. When we started to film the first shot was outside, the only problem was the wind as it kept moving the tri-pod and we couldn't catch the actors voice's very clearly. We wanted to make the shot in the fridge effective, this took a few shots to get it right as we had to have it in the right place so you could see the actor and the ice cream which was being taken out. We achieved the different shots of our character sitting in different positions but we aren't quite sure how we are going to edit this to make it look good. The different shots at the beginning of our character 'Donna' are going to be in the different slide transitions which we got the idea from the opening scene of 'Definatly, Maybe'. We wanted to be quick filming outside as the costumes our actors were wearing were t-shirts, luckily the house was warm inside and only took a few shots. We had a few problems with the camera throughout filming as the battery went down quite quickly, the battery ran out 3 times which delayed our filming.

Relationship Between Characters

The relationship between our two characters are going to have a very good relationship and it is going to be shown in the first few minutes of the opening, it gives the idea to the audience how close they are. Usually in romantic comedies there is commonly a girlfriend friendship where they discuss anything and they relay on each other in bad situations. Our character Zoey and Donna are quite opposite as Zoey is quite shy and Donna is very outgoing and wants to go party. Storyboard

This is our storyboard for the opening scene of our film, we are going to be using different types of shots including: low angles, medium close ups and two shots to make sure we can have a different variety of shots. We couldn't show the different angles on the storyboard so we wrote it on the story board to remind us what we need to do, we also made note on the shots and props at the side of the story board to include throughout filming. We will try our best to go by the storyboard while filming but we need to see how much the storyboard works with the location we are using. The storyboard also shows the different edits and the timing of the shot and also lighting we are going to be using for the different shots, this will help us alot while filming as we can know how long we have to shoot and how we need to the lighting without being unorganised.

Call sheet and Shot sheet
We have made a call sheet and shot sheet to make sure we know everything we are doing throughout the shooting. The call sheet helps us remember when we have to shoot and where we have to meet as some of the characters or cast may forget when they have to turn up, it makes it more organised. The shot sheet shows the different shots we will be using throughout the shots and it makes it easier to remember what we are doing and make sure we include all of the shots we want to include. The boxs are currently empty as all as a group need to decided on which day is suitable for shooting our film as we want to have a day of filming to make sure we get everything done.

Slide transitions
For the opening of our film we want to include slide transitions which we saw at the opening of 'Definatly, Maybe' we thought this seemed effective as you can see different points of the film in the same shot such as having the middle box of the main character and another box of the scenery. The 'Defiantly, Maybe' shows the character moving to the different places and we like the idea of having our character move to the different places in the house to show where she is and what she is going to do. Schedule
This is the schedule we will be going by when filming and editing.
Week 1- All pre planning is to be complete, such as script and storyboard. All props should be collected and brought to location of filming.
Week 2- Book the camera out for the days we will need to be filming. Arrange a run through of the opening scene, using our own video camera so we can have a rehearsal of camera shots before the real filming.
Week 3- Create a logo for the opening scene, add any extra preparations before we begin to start filming. Double checking the location is free, and all actors can still make the shooting of the opening scene.
Week 4- Begin filming the scene, hopefully to have half of the sequence filmed before the end of the week.
Week 5- Finish filming the other half of the scene, conversation in the bedroom, and phone call.
Week 6- Hand back the camera, media file conversion will take place.
Week 7- Have a look at the video footage, begin to edit the footage too. Possibly opening credits, and title of the film done.
Week 8- Aim to have a rough finish of the opening scene, with a try of different effects we could use.
Week 9- Add music to beginning of the video footage.
Week 10- Finish editing, add the opening credits and film title effectively.
Week 11- If any problems with the finished edit, fix any corrections needed.

Script
This is the script we will be using when we film, we have made the opening have different emotions to show what the main character is feeling, the music we are going to be using is quite happy and shows how the film is about romance. We thought it would be effective to build the beginning of the film up till she starts to get emotional.
Zoey walks to the house and enters, walks through the living room while undressing leading on to the kitchen. Character opens fridge grabs ice-cream and sweets, leaves and walks upstairs- Music plays "Two Birds -Regina Spektor"
Character put's on a film, and jumps onto the bed, diving into the food.-Music still playing
Character gets a handful of sweets and chucks them at the T.V during the climax of the DVD.
(Phone Rings)
Conversation-
Donna: Zoey are you there?
Zoey: Um, yeah...
Donna: You’re not watching (name of the film) again are you?
Zoey: Oh, umm (pause) yeah.
Donna: (Sighs) For god's sake, I'm coming in.
Zoey: I'm fine you dont have to, I'm all good.
Donna: To late... (Hangs up the phone)
(Donna walks up the stairs into Zoeys room)
Donna: (Raise eyebrows) you need to take a leaf out of my book, staying in the house is not how we do things round here... Come on budge up.

Camera angles in our film
From the continuity task we learnt we broke the 180 rule several times, we know for our romantic comedy that we can't break the rule as it wont make our film have a flow and it won't make it look professional. We are going to be using different camera shots including tracking, close-ups, medium close-ups etc. This will make our film more successful. We also learnt that on some shots we forgot to leave 3 seconds before we started acting as this is easier to edit, from the different tasks we have learnt what we need to do to make our task better.

Location
Our film is going to be shot in a house to show the normality of the girl. It gives the audience the idea of her private life in the film and what she is like after she leaves her work place. We decided to use the house as our filming spot as it fit our story description but also it is easy for all of the group to get there. The house in a cul-de-sac, so if we wanted to film in the street we wouldnt have a lot of problem with people walking in and out of our shots and we wouldnt be disturbing a lot of people when we film. As the filming is taking part in the house we have everything we will need for everyone working with us. The house is very modern and young like so it shows the character's personality and what she is like throughout the opening.

Character Profiles
We want to make the opening of the film show the two main characters which would be main all the way through the film. The two characters would be easy to relate to the audience of romantic comedies, such as young single women trying to find love. We see in the opening of 'The Holiday' shows the four main characters in the first few minutes giving the audience the idea of the film. We want the characters to have a similar sterotype which are seen in romantic comedies.
Zoey Holiday - is a 25 year old single woman who works for a magazine, she loves her job. But she has never been lucky with love and her realtionships never seem to work out. She is shown to be a hopeless romantic and always ends up with her heart broken. She dresses sopisticated and sensible, but dresses down at home in tracksuits and hoodys. She is shown to wear the more sophiticated look at work to show she is serious but is shown to be alot more laid back at home.
Donna May - is a 27 year old out going woman who is bestfriends with Zoey. She has a different personality to Zoey as she is quite loud and out spoken, she likes to party and have fun. She doesn't really care about looking for a realtionship, she's more of a man eater. She is always there for Zoey when she is down about realtionships and gives her advice to go and party more, but Zoey is more interested in finding the one. She wears revealing clothes to show her personality off and to show she is a bit of an attention seeker.
Film scenario
The idea we had for our film opening sequence was we wanted to show a normal life of a single woman who thinks she isn't going to find love. The opening sequence would contain the main character Zoey arriving home from work and getting ready for bed. She then reaches for the ice cream for comfort food and puts on a romantic comedy and the film makes her cry as she thinks she will never find love. The next character would be introduced which would be Zoey's bestfriend, she is introduced by a phone call which the screen would then be a split screen like the opening of 'Definatly, Maybe' as it gives a good effect of the phonecall showing both sides. Donna is then shown to walk into her bestfriends house to comfort her. The opening scene would end.
We think this fits in with the genre romantic comedy as it shows a young woman who is desperate to find love but thinks she will never find any and gets herself upset about the situation. It shows the other main character to be her bestfriend as friends are supposed to be there for each other. The comedy is shown with the young woman getting extremly upset over a film that's supposed to be happy. The opening of our film shows an everyday life of a young woman arriving home from a busy day at work, which a lot of the audience can relate to. Showing the bond between two bestfriends talk to each other about the realtionships they have been through and realising she will find love.
