Final Prisioner clip

This is our final piece for the prisioner project, we worked well together as team and we found the camera easier to use after the other tasks we have done. We included the different camera shots we had learnt to try and make it seem like a better trailor, we found the best possible location which we thought would match the script we were using. We didnt have a lot of problems while filming the only problems we had were the background noise which we tried to hide with music. The problems we had with the editing software was that it kept freezing and we would have to close the programme and sometimes we would lose the work we had just done, we also didnt have sound for a few lessons as we didnt realise what the problem was. We finally sorted the sound out and added music which was the foo fighters 'all my life', we thought this fitted the script well as its quite rocky and it makes you think what is going to happen next in the scene, we also learnt how to make the music volume lower when the scene had speaking in it, we thought this was effective as we could still hear the music in the background but could hear the speaking very well. We added different transitions to make it look proffessional, we added slow motion to several bits as we thought it fitted well to the bit on the trailor.

  1. I'm pleased that you are maintaining your blog, although I would like you to write in a little more detail, particularly in terms of reviewing what you have done in more depth.

0:00 - Your opening shot is a little shakey - you could do with starting with some sort of establishing shot. The background audio is very "hissy" - there is a way of reducing this using some software installed on the computers. Also, your shot is out of focus - this is to do with the low light, mainly... You need to watch this when shooting in the future.

0:09 - I like the shot of the feet walking; this is nicely framed and the slo-mo works. The credits work here.

0:19 - You might have cross-faded here, although the continuity is odd, with Megan being in the dark and then brightly lit. Also, the pace is odd, going from slo-mo to normal

0:23 - Not sure about the music over the top of the dialogue; the vocals impact on the audio. The cross-fades are not really appropriate here - you would usually use them to show the passage of time - you would have been better advised to use straight cuts. Your framing is also a little odd in places.

0:28 - This shot is held a little too long - you might have been better to cut to CUs of Megan and the other character, to break the sequence up?

0:36 - Again, the cf here should be a cut. I like the angle - it's interesting and creates a good effect.

0:37 - The cut to a CU here is a little odd since you are alreadu in MS on Megan. You really ought to have cut to an LS; the rhythm is somewhat strange. Not sure about how you've framed this shot

0:43 - I rather like the framing here - it's a very good two-shot - although I think the high angle is slightly strange; you might have been better to make this a straightforward level shot

0:48 - The slo-mo here is good; this is an appropriate place to use cfs rather than cuts

0:56 - I like the closing shot - this is effective

    In summary:
This is okay, although you've fallen into the trap of using transitions when you didn't need to - within the sequence itself, straight cuts would be better. You really need to think about the editing, since this has a major impact on the effectiveness of your project.

You have tried to use a range of shots, which is good, although you might want to storyboard your work in more detail next time. Your continuity is okay, although there are a few errors; you might want to plan this out.

At the moment, this would be regarded as L2 work - D grade - which is what I would expect a first piece to be. You will have plenty of time to improve during your next project, but it's a reasonable starting place
